What to expect
Kinnaur & Sangla Valley Ride is a fully supported group expedition from Shimla to Chitkul, run by riders who have done this route many times over. You ride your own motorcycle or take one of ours; either way a backup vehicle follows the group with a mechanic, spares, fuel and your luggage. Night halts, permits and meals are arranged in advance so you can focus on the road. Expect long riding days, ghat sections and changeable weather. A valid motorcycle licence and some long-distance experience are required.
What you'll do, step by step
Report at the Shimla start point for licence and permit checks, bike allotment, gear fitting and the ride briefing. Flag-off after breakfast.
Long highway stretches with the backup vehicle sweeping behind. Fuel stops roughly every 150 km, dhaba lunches, and night halts booked ahead.
A planned rest day to acclimatise, service the bikes and let the group recover before the hardest sections.

First long expedition and I was nervous about the altitude. The rest day for acclimatisation made all the difference, and the oxygen cylinders were reassuring to have along.
Roads were rough in places but that's the point. Briefings every morning were clear about the day's stretch, fuel stops and where we'd halt.
